San Quintín, Baja California, Mexico, February 4, 2016

To the social organizations, brothers and sisters in the United States of America that stand in solidarity with the farm worker struggle of San Quintín in Mexico; independent unions, academics, activists, and mass communication media:

The farm workers of the San Quintín Valley that rose up on March 17, 2015 to demand better working conditions invite you to come in solidarity with our struggle. We call upon you to march from different places in the state of California from the 17th to 20th of March in 2016 to join us with thousands of farm workers that will participate in a MEGA-MARCH from San Quentin to the border, on the beaches of Tijuana on the 20th of March.

This MEGA-MARCH will commemorate the first year anniversary of the general strike in San Quentin. It will allow us to let the world know that in just one year after this historic labor strike where thousands of farm workers left the fields and came to the streets to demand better working conditions, the businessmen have not had the goodwill to listen to our demands or to establish measures to assure that our labor rights and human rights are protected under the law. On the contrary, we experienced very strong retaliation by the enforcement agencies of three levels of government that were complicit with the businessmen, we were jailed, injured, we have suffered reprisals, were fired in groups, and were constantly threatened in the fields, we were given higher production standards for the same rate of pay, they made us join “sellout” unions that have never represented us in order to protect their position, amongst other labor abuses.

We ask for your support in order for this day, March 17, to be a day where we shout together with farm workers of San Quintín and Mexico, and all corners of the United States, BOYCOTT DRISCOLL’S, that there be demonstrations in all the warehouses of Driscoll’s, in supermarkets like Costco, Walmart, Whole Foods, Safeway, or anywhere that Driscoll’s products are sold. It is now time to BOYCOTT DRISCOLL’S because it is the company that sources the majority of the berries that are picked in this valley (Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries) and the same company that exploits farm workers in the United States such as is the case of our brothers and sisters from Familias Unidas por la Justicia in Washington State who have also been engaged in a BOYCOTT of DRISCOLL’S for over two years.

The support of unionists and activists of the United States was crucial to our first major victory where we were able to legally register our National Independent Democratic Farm Worker’s Union (SINDJA)on this matter we ask once again for your support in order to demand that corporations like Driscoll’s, and the companies that are part of the Baja Californian Agricultural Congress and all other agricultural sectors in Mexico sign collective bargaining contracts with this sole union that legally and legitimately represents farm workers in San Quentin and all of Mexico. Always combative, always present, we know we can count on you.
